“We need to fix her!”
He exclaimed bemusedly
“But I don’t know how
She’s so lost. So far beyond reach.”
At a loss for words
I simply thought
Who are we
To fix a person
When we
Are
Each
So
Broken?
Who are we
To assume
Our tools are better
Our words, our ways
Are the only right ways
To be a properly
Functioning being?
I did not say this.
I simply said
We cannot.
We cannot fix her.
We can be kind.
We can say kind things –
Compassionate things –
And with our kindness
We can perhaps reveal
That she was not so broken
At all
And that she (and we)
Can fix ourselves
And build our
Broken selves
Into a circle
A community
Of
Formerly
Broken
Things.
